Meteorologists predict active storm track for Boston area this winter

Boston may be headed for another stormy winter as per Meteorologists

Last year was one of the worst winters that people of Boston and MA had to endure. Many people considered packing up and moving south. But a few did. Boston considered it as an unlucky winter and decided to move on and give it another try. According to meteorologists, although the winter may not be as harsh as it was last time, it certainly will be stormy and harsh.

“The model certainly suggests an active storm track,” said winter weather expert Judah Cohen. She is the principal scientist and director of seasonal forecasting at Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) – Lexington. This is a premier meteorology institute and a division of Verisk Analytics.

Last winter the city braved mounds of snow that had not melted completely as late at September. City’s public transportation system was totally shutdown. Taxi driver and airport shuttle services were completely grounded. It was a high alert time when people had to stockpile food necessities for possibly long periods of shutdown.

“The model predicted 62 inches,” Cohen said, cautioning that the model has a margin of error. “So you know, it’s above average.” Scientists are relying on El Nino phenomenon to make the forthcoming winter milder. El Nino generally accounts for less bitter and winters with rain.

So, if this winter is wet and not a snow storm disaster, that would be more welcoming compared to last year. It is possible to provide ground transportation services on wet roads but with 15 inches of snow that is not a remote possibility. We had about 200 cancellations last winter our highest no of cancellations in a month since we started operating 15 years ago.
